Research Focus
Dr. MacDonald has a 65% research and 35% teaching responsibility in the Agronomy Department at the University of Florida. He teaches several classes and is currently responsible for overseeing the plant science field-teaching laboratory on campus, which includes a 300+ weed nursery.
Current research areas include:
- cogongrass biology, ecology and management
- torpedograss biology, ecology and management
- biology, physiology and biochemical aspects of fluridone tolerant hydrilla
- peanut and cotton weed management
- sustainable peanut production technology in Guyana, South America
- herbicide physiology, mode of action and resistance mechanisms
- invasive plant management
