Most aquatic plant managers agree that resistance management strategies are an increasingly important component of any long-term plant management program that employs the use of herbicides. The need for increased emphasis on resistance management is heightened by the fact that all aquatic herbicides registered with the EPA since 2003 are single site of action compounds that have shown resistance potential in terrestrial systems. The Herbicide Resistance Stewardship in Aquatic Plant Management White Paper was prepared by the Aquatic Plant Management Society, Inc. to provide insight and guidance regarding herbicide stewardship and resistance management related to long-term aquatic plant management programs that incorporate herbicide use in U.S. waters.
