The giant leather fern is a native of Florida, frequently found in brackish and freshwater marshes of the central and southern peninsula (Wunderlin, 1998). Florida is the only state that Acrostichum is found in, but it also occurs in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands (Kartesz, 1999).
