Aesculus pavia is a flowering, perennial plant.

Red buckeye has a vast distribution. It is present in the eastern half of North America, extending as far north as Quebec, as far west as California and as far south as Florida (Kartesz, 1999). It is found throughout the state of Florida (Wunderlin, 1998).
