Cross vine occurs frequently in floodplain forests and wet hammocks of the northern counties of Florida, south to the central peninsula. It blooms in the spring. There is only one species of Bignonia in Florida (Wunderlin, 2003).

Cross vine looks somewhat similar to the invasive cat’s-claw vine, Macfadyena unguis-cati, but lacks the three-pronged claw-like tendrils.

Cross vine is present in the southeastern U.S., as well as IL, IN, MD, and OH (Kartesz, 1999).
