Campyloneurum phyllitidis is a perennial, wetland fern. It grows in hammocks, either as an epiphyte or on rocks.

Long strap fern has a very limited distribution in North America. It is present in Florida, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands (Kartesz, 1999). In Florida, it is found occasionally in the central and southern peninsula (Wunderlin, 2003).
