There are about a dozen species of this colorful flower in Florida, including 1 non-native species and 2 endemic species (only occur in Florida) (Wunderlin, 2003). They grow in all kinds of sites, from dry disturbed places to wet flatwoods and floodplain forests, riverbanks, bogs and ponds. Some bloom in the spring, some in the fall and winter, and some bloom all year.
There are about 40 species of Coreopsis in the U.S. and Canada (Kartesz, 1999).
