Golden crest is frequently found growing in the bogs, marshes and flatwoods of the central and western panhandle of Florida, flowering in the summer. There is one species of Lophiola in Florida (Wunderlin, 2003). In the US, golden crest occurs in the southeast and NJ; and in Nova Scotia, Canada (Kartesz, 1999).
