Six species of Nymphoides occur in Florida but only two are native, N. aquatica and N. cordata. Florida is the southern extent of little floating heart’s native easterly distribution, which stretches north to Maine (Jacono, 2002). Flowers are white to cream with a yellow center, 1/5 – 2/5 inch wide. Leaves are cordate-ovate, 1 1/4 – 2 3/4 inches long, often variegated with reddish-purple above, underside smooth (FL DACS, DPI), Nymphoides spp. Accessed December 2016.)
