Poison ivy can run along the ground, or grow high into the trees. It can be herbaceous, or it can become woody and branching, as in the left-most picture above. It always has the distinctive arrangement of three leaves.

Poison ivy is common in hammocks, floodplain forests, swamps and disturbed sites nearly throughout Florida (Wunderlin, 2003). It flowers in the spring and summer and is equally likely to occur in wetlands or non-wetlands (estimated probability 34%-66%).
